Unlike HMOs you can go out of network (you can go to any doctor), at reduced benefits. You choose a calendar year (per person) deductible normally between $250-$5000. Then choose coinsurance, the percentage split up to a certain amount(ins co/you) say 80/20, 70/30, or 50/50 and so on. Example $500 deductible 80/20 of the next $10,000. This would mean on a $100,000 covered in network expense you would pay the first $500 then split the next $10,000. You pay 20% x $10,000 or $2,000. So your total cost would $500 + $2.000 = $2,500. The insurance company picks up the rest. Plans will vary according to benefits offered, Some have co-pays for doctors visits and prescriptions, and others will offer maternity, emergency room and/or even dental coverage. |
